The Chicago Center for Urologic Reconstruction & Trauma specializes in the treatment of urethral stricture disease and urologic conditions resulting from traumatic injuries. Dr. Alsikafi is an expert in urethral reconstruction (urethroplasty), urologic trauma, and male urinary incontinence.

Injuries to the urethra from pelvic fractures, straddle injuries, urethral instrumentation or external trauma can result in urethral stricture disease, which can lead to a slow urinary stream, dribbling, and incomplete emptying. These strictures can be difficult to manage and are often treated inadequately with repeated dilations and incisions. Dr. Alsikafi is an expert in the urethroplasty, the surgical procedure to definitively treat urethral strictures and their symptoms.

Acquired or congenital abnormalities to the urethra (hypospadias) can be equally symptomatic. Urethroplasty is also definitive in these cases, use of substitution grafts such as buccal mucosa (mucosa from the inner surface of cheek) or tissues from other areas of the body

Male Urinary Incontinence
Male urinary incontinence is a condition in which a man uncontrollably leaks urine, often in untimely and embarrassing situations. This condition traditionally occurred from a large obstructing prostate in men without prostate cancer. Recently urinary incontinence has been more commonly associated with surgical treatment for prostate cancer (prostatectomy) or radiation treatment. Dr. Alsikafi is one of few urologists who specializes in urinary incontinence following prostate cancer treatments. He is a teacher to other urologists of various techniques (artificial urinary sphincter, Advance male sling) to help improve this condition.
